According to a recent Lumos Energy survey, First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities are involved in at least 35 medium- to large-scale operating wind farms across Canada. There are also dozens more renewable energy projects in the works. Any company interested in building a wind farm in this country should seek to involve Indigenous communities in their projects. There are many provincial governments, and the federal government, making Indigenous equity involvement and meaningful partnerships in renewable energy development a priority. In this session, we’ll learn about the incredible opportunities and best practices to ensure productive and respectful relationships with Indigenous communities on wind energy developments.
