Aaron Bloom leads an interdisciplinary team of engineers and analysts that work with industry to modernize power grids around the world. He is an expert in power systems planning and electricity market design. His team supports a broad array of power systems modeling work in the U.S., India, South Africa, and Asia. He was the principal investigator for the Eastern Renewable Generation Integration Study, a comprehensive review of how the Eastern Interconnection might operate if 30% of annual electricity demand was met using wind and solar. In the Interconnections Seam Study and North American Renewable Integration Study, his team is exploring how North America’s vast resources can be used to enable clean, reliable, and affordable power systems. More recently he is working with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to identify the investments necessary to meet 100% electricity demand with renewable resources.
